About Dolce

What a difference a little TLC can make! When 5-year-old Dolce arrived at her foster home, she was shy and submissive and spent most of her time hiding under blankets. Her sparse, unsightly coat and skin irritated by flea dermatitis, her overgrown nails, and apparent unfamiliarity with everyday doggy routines told of a previous life of neglect. While Dolce is still learning to accept the love she has always deserved, this adorable 10-lb. Rattie mix (we're seeing some Chihuahua too) is developing a sassy, confident personality along with a healthy new coat. She has settled in well with her canine foster sister and the resident cats (after realizing that barking at them didn't work). Initially she was not a fan of grass, so Dolce would use an indoor potty pad to do her business. If you carried her downstairs and put her out, she would just stand there waiting to come back and use the potty pad upon return. Gradually she progressed to using fake turf on the patio. And now following the good example set by her canine foster sister, Dolce has learned to go up and down stairs on her own, do her business in the grass, and even ask to go out! Indoor potty pads are only needed in times of emergency. Outside Dolce will bark at other dogs and humans as they pass, and while she's learning to walk nicely using a harness and leash, for now, her walks are limited to her yard, where she's comfortable with the people and animals she knows. Each day her walks grow a little longer as she investigates this new world around her with all its good smells. Dolce is also growing into quite the 'material girl' in her foster home. The little hoarder will collect everything anyone else has, and at the end of the day, the biggest pile of toys or unattended bully sticks will be found in her 'nest' on the sofa, chair, or dog bed! There's only one thing remaining for Dolce to add to her collection of treasures, and that's a home to call her very own--one that's fairly quiet without young children and with a nice fenced yard to explore and a confident canine buddy to help show her the ropes.
