About Rio-ADOPTION PENDING

Schnauzer / Poodle
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

It got scarily close to Rio's euthanasia date in a dismal New Mexico shelter. It was definitely through no fault of his own..it's all a matter of space. He came in at a very crowded time (but then again..all times are very crowded) and was therefore given a very short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our very compassionate NM rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute fuzzy guy with a great temperament!), Rio was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. His rescuer, shelter workers and Rio's foster haven't stopped raving about this adorable and engaging guy ever since. Rio, at about 18 months old and 20 lbs is the perfect size to take along just about anywhere. Rio is such a perfect candidate to find his forever home in Colorado - he's a natural-born walker and hiker with the energy and enthusiasm to accompany his favorite person on any path or trail...and absolutely love the experience! We envision Rio in a family with dog-crazy and respectful, older kids (tail pulling or awkward handling would be very scary for this sweet guy). Active retirees would also be great... they must enjoy spending their time with a comical and very loving and loyal best friend. Rio will be a very family-oriented puppy if given the chance...adventures, vacations or just hanging out at home with family members would speak to the nature of this very engaging and loving guy. A fun time for Rio would be exploring dog-friendly spots or time spent socializing with like-sized canines and their dog-loving families. At the end of the day however...there would be nothing better for Rio than to snuggle close to his family of humans and canines for cuddling, belly rubs and loving words. Rio can be counted on to be a positive addition to any home. Once he is over the initial stress of his transport and rehoming, he will be overjoyed at being part of a committed family! After passing his temperament testing and vetting with flying colors, Rio is with a wonderful foster in New Mexico getting loved up with lots of belly rubs and being reminded of his basic house skills. His foster mom has described Rio as super-smart (really loves to please), a lovebug and kind, gentle spirit ...can we possibly say more? Rio is in dire need of a sudsy bath and grooming (as is evident in his photo). He will emerge with a cottony-soft and shining coat that will highlight his pure white non-shedding hair that speaks of his breed mix. Rio will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition (5 star kibble and a salmon oil supplement are always an excellent choice for longevity and hair care) to keep his lovely coat very healthy, super-soft and matt-free. Rio is up to date on his vetting, but has yet to be neutered. We're hoping that he'll be fixed when he arrives from New Mexico, however rescue dogs often fall through the cracks in this impoverished area with too many dogs and not enough vets to neuter/spay them. If Rio isn't fixed, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Rio to be neutered and microchipped at one of our rescue vets to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Rio will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 3/14/20. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Cooper please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
