About Benny

Adoption Fee: $50
Black Mouth Cur
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Say hi to Benny! A lovable, goofy and smart Black Mouth Cur aged 5 1/2 (70lb). He is neutered and fully up-to-date on all vaccinations and boosters as of February 2020 (including rabies, distemper, lyme). He was just given a clean bill of health. A wonderful indoor dog who is completely house broken and sleeps through the night be it on a mattress, couch or his own doggy bed. He loves adults and does great with vet visits, always full of kisses and no problems handling vaccinations. Benny is a highly energetic breed and LOVES to play fetch as well as tug-o-war and tag. Benny also knows tricks including sit, shake and lay down. Now the caveats... Benny is best as a single pet in a non-child home due to limited association and anxieties with other animals and kids (at least until he gradually gets to know them). He can become very high strung when he sees others especially foot traffic on sidewalks and would benefit from formal obedience training to become more social especially before taking him to a dog park. He is very much a puppy at heart and will sometimes find items he shouldn't to chew on if he is bored or hasn't gotten enough exercise (i.e., Tupperware, DVD cases, cardboard). This is easily mitigated with toys, kongs and filled chew bones. He should always be tied up when outside unless in a fenced in area or after further training, as he is energetic and can easily take off if not restrained. Sadly I must rehome him due to ongoing clashes with a busy school neighborhood and a lack of space and time to give him the exercise and attention he needs. Prefer a private home with a nice sized yard, bonus if it is fenced in. Since he can get rowdy when he sees people and animals walking by and will bark and run, close neighbors or shared complexes is not ideal. Anyone who has prior experience working with large dogs would likely be able to train him easily to become an even more perfect pet.
