About Tay

Adoption Fee: $175
Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Just look at my face, what more do you need to know? I have a handsome smile, I love to be close to my people, and I am a young guy searching for commitment. A home I can have forever and a human that will love me until the end. I am a bit 'clingy' and needy they say but that's just because I never know when I am going to be left and given away next. I love warm hugs, ear scratches, and couch lounging. I enjoy walks and playing, too. I will enjoy doing anything as long as it's with you! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intake Date: 2 March 2020 ----- Adopted 4 April 2020 -----Returned to Rescue 4 Feb 2023----- Age: 4 yr ----- Breed: border collie x ----- Size: 50 lbs ----- Status: owner surrender, adopted, returned to rescue ----- Compatible with: dogs, cats, children ----- Suitable for: home with fenced yard ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: none major noted. Came to rescue underweight the first time, returned to rescue very overweight ----- Additional Notes: Well hello handsome. Sweet Tay has been bounced around a bit recently and I think the most frustrating part for us is when we get an owner surrender situation where the dog is in this condition. He is much thinner in person than his images show. He should put on about 5 lbs or more and when you consider what he weighs, that is a big percentage change. On a body condition chart, he would be a 2, borderline 3. We are grateful the family who took him in brought him to rescue. Tay is a bit nervous and that's obvious in his behaviors. He struggles to sit still and rest as he is on high alert and desperate to be very close to us at all times. He is going to be a really good dog once he is settled in, healthy, and comfortable. He is submissive, eager to please, takes correction etc. We are told there may be some separation anxiety issues but so far he has done great with crate training. He did chew through a long lead we let him drag on night one. **A secure fenced yard is required** UPDATE: Tay was returned to rescue 3 years after adoption due to his adopters moving into an apartment. Tay came to rescue very overweight so we are working on that. Did you know obesity can reduce a dog's lifespan by 3 years? Don't worry though, we will get him fit and healthy again! Tay's biggest issue is still the separation anxiety that we initially noted. That is why he was returned. He has a tendency to bark when left alone and that wouldn't work in an apartment. He deserves a home with another dog and where he will never be abandoned again. This poor dog has been in so many homes, it is no wonder he is afraid to be left. Breaks my heart! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting, please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption can be finalized at that time. FBS standard adoption fee is $175. All residents are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. If a yard is present a secure physical fence is required.
