About Lennox

Adoption Fee: $20
Australian Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Lennox is a 6-year old (soon to be 7 in May) male mini-aussie red tri-merle, weighing approximately 25 pounds. His current owners (married couple, no kids) have had him since he was a puppy. For the most part, he is a wonderful dog: he loves to play fetch with his tennis balls, go on walks, car rides, greet close friends and relatives with excitement, and lake trips. He is also very affectionate to his family members, very smart, highly attentive, and is eager to please. However, his one major downfall is his aggression towards other animals and some people. He has attacked other dogs, as well as bitten a couple people who have gotten too close in his face. His current family has kept him and worked around his aggression by isolating him from other dogs and strangers the best they could, but they are now expecting a child in June and unfortunately cannot keep him and potentially endanger the child. With his aggression issues in mind, he is still a great dog 99% of the time, and would be a wonderful dog for someone with some (or all) of the criteria as follows: ~Single male or adult couple with time to earn his trust (kids and other animals in the household not advised) ~Someone capable of behavior training and/or willing to possibly work with a behaviorist to help Lennox work through his aggression issues ~Someone with time to let him exert his energy (i.e. walks, throwing his ball), and the space to run around (i.e. backyard) ~Someone with patience knowing that it may take time for you to earn his trust (fetch, treats, and walks will help cure that) ~Learn his aggression patterns (usually at night) as he gives clear signals when he doesn't want to be bothered (usually just by a growl - he never growls at the male owner, but he growls randomly at his female owner (male's wife) and has bitten her once about 18 months ago). Since the family's child is due in June, the hope is to find someone who can take him in within the next few weeks, as euthanizing is an absolute last resort. We truly hope there is someone out there that can work to bring out the best in him and allow him to live out the rest of his life naturally.
