About Chance

Adoption Fee: $275
Border Collie mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Here's the Chance of a lifetime! Chance is a 3 year old male border collie mix. This boy has a love for life and an unquenchable curiosity. After some extreme life changes his owner lovingly chose to give Chance a new opportunity at a forever home. This smart boy came to his foster a little overweight and a little depressed. Now, he is losing the physical and psychological weight and brimming over with joie de vivre. What to tell you about him? Chance has border collie energy and intelligence radiates from his eyes. He wants to be with his people-whether playing or chilling on the couch. And there is nothing better than playtime with his fellow foster canines. Chance was curious about the foster home felines but quickly learned to let them be with the 'leave it!' command. And that's Chance. His eagerness to please and understand makes him very responsive to training. Like any young border collie Chance has a bit of a stubborn side. His foster family is consistent in training and reinforcement of house boundaries. His forever folks will understand a border collie's temperament and need for consistent stimulation. Chance will want a peer to play with. So, a laid back but active playfellow is a must. Chance has shown some signs of food allergy and has had seizures in the past. He hasn't had a single seizure since coming to his foster home six weeks ago where he eats a higher quality food and stays away from all wheat products. We suspect the seizures may have been due to his food allergy and a stressful environment. Chance developed a habit of biting at his feet, possibly because of the food allergy and anxiety. His foster family helps him with an 'Ah-ah' or 'Leave it' and redirection when he is anxious or bored. Chance is still learning how to walk calmly on a leash. When he has to go he stands at the back door, and lets you know. He kennels when he is told to but may bark his opinion if he thinks he has been in there too long. Chance knows or is learning 'come', 'sit', 'stay', 'wait', 'gently', 'leave it', 'back', 'outside', 'off' and others. So Chance's best forevers? Those folks are herding breed savvy, and will give Chance lots of intentional interaction and opportunity for enrichment. His new family is committed to his non-wheat dietary needs and a dependable environment. Chance's folks have a somewhat active lifestyle, a fenced in yard, and love to cuddle up with him after some fun. The ideal home also has at least one other sociable female or non dominant male dog of a comparable age and size. Are you ready to have your life enhanced by Chance?
