About Shelly

Meet Shelly Shelly is a gorgeous girl who suffered immeasurable abuse in her younger life. We rescued her from a high-kill shelter after she'd been used and abused. She's been waiting for the right family or person to come along and let her know there is a loving life waiting for her. Despite her early years, Shelly is a love bug. She has a beautiful face, gorgeous coloring and her eyes shine with happiness. Shelly is nearly five years old now. We think she is a Beabull (Beagle/American Bulldog mix) most likely used for breeding. Shelly walks very well on a leash, but if she sees another dog or cat, or pretty much any animal, she will fixate on it so it's important to walk her in quiet areas where there won't be too much activity. Who knows how many litters she had ripped away from her, but when she first arrived at our shelter, the defeat on her face was heartbreaking. Not to mention the scars and scratching that marked her gorgeous face. After more than a year with us, the scars have faded and Shelly has shown us her sweet and silly self. Shelly is gentle girl. She LOVES attention and practically vibrates with happiness and contentment when someone sits with her. She loves human touch and makes a deep connection with those she trusts. At every turn, Shelly lets you know how much you mean to her with tail wags and doggie kisses. This girl is nothing but kind and gentle to everyone she meets. Shelly doesn't need a lot of exercise, but she loves walking and will happily walk forever. She enjoys being in the yard and warming herself up in the sunshine. Shelly is very smart and we think she is house-trained. Given her past, Shelly will thrive as the only fur baby in a home without dogs or cats. Shelly is as steady as they come. She puts herself out there to be loved and adored. Shelly will make for a great companion for an older person or couple, or a family with older children. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
