TO BE KILLED 3/3/20 to save ple RETURNED TO THE SHELTER :( 19-Feb-2020 (after being returned to owner in Sep 2019) The Ever Regal King Jerry Graces Us With His Presence, Yet Again! A volunteer writes: Jerry is one swell fellow. He has a gorgeous white head, sleek brindle coat and soulful eyes. He's just the right amount of shy, and is sweet and gentle as can be. It's a pleasure to walk Jerry. Nothing much seems to distract him and he thoroughly enjoys strolling along. Aside from that, he knows he's outside for another reason, too. And there's nothing more comforting than sitting on a stoop with Jerry pressed up against your legs. He's a lovely boy waiting for you at Manhattan ACC. Don't keep him waiting too long. KING JERRY FKA JERRY, ID# 69674, 2 yrs old, 68 lbs, @MANHATTAN ACC, White / Brown Brindle Male, Return after 5 mos (was returned to owner in Sep) Owner Surrender Reason: unknown Shelter Assessment Rating: NEW HOPE ONLY No young children (under 5) Medical Behavior Rating: Blue OWNER SURRENDER NOTES - BASIC INFORMATION: King Jerry previously lived with 2 adults. King Jerry is good with strangers, jumps on them with tail wagging and wants to get pet. He sometimes will bark at people to get their attention. King Jerry is friendly with kids, he lets them pet him all over his body and plays with them. He may jump on them when he gets excited and doesnt realize how big he is. King Jerry gets very hyper when he sees another dog, he will bark at them and and want to get to them to play. He will pull you in their direction and even if they turn a corner he will attempt to pull you that way. He is polite with other dogs and will sniff them and try to play. King Jerry has a bite history with another dog. See bite history information below. King Jerry was exposed to a stray cat that lived near their building. King would get very hyper and pull you towards the cat, he wanted to say hi. The cat never got very close so owner does not know what King would have done. No resource guarding noted. King Jerry is partially housetrained. His previous owner describes his energy level as very high. Bite History Note: 9/11/19-- The owner explained that when she was taking King outside for a walk they were waiting at the elevator door when the door began to open. One of her neighbors with a small dog was inside the elevator and the small dog was off leash and ran out of the elevator before the owners and ran right up into King's face and started to bark, growl, and show teeth. King was able to keep calm for about 30 seconds, while the owner was trying to shoo the little dog away. After about 30 seconds, King became agitated and started to bark at the small dog with his hackles raised. The owner of the small dog was simply calling for her dog to come to her, rather than physically picking up the dog. Jerry lunged forward and bit the small dog on the neck, biting and holding but did not shake. King had to be put into a choke hold to get him to release the small dog. Other Notes: King has destroyed some items in the home. He chewed up the couch cushions and the owner's makeup. Has this dog ever had any medical issues? No For a New Family to Know King is the best dog. He is super loving and affectionate. He will sleep with you at night and loves to be around people and children. You do have to get his energy out, it is best if someone is around often to hang out with him and watch him. INTAKE NOTES - DATE OF INTAKE, 19-Feb-2020: King was very excitable in the admissions office, jumping on everyone with tail wagging. He took some treats but not all of them, we were able to do some 'watch me' and 'sit' commands. Collared, microchip scanned and handled throughout intake. He put on the brakes while heading into large dog adoptions, but he was encouraged easily and went in with no issue.
