About HUNTER

Adoption Fee: $550
German Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

HUNTER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine HUNTER is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 5 August 2018 and at the time of rescue in February 2020 weighed around 62 pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. HUNTER does have an old injury where it appears he has been hit by a car. His pelvis was broken in three places and also his hip joint, which has dis-aligned his pelvis and due him not receiving any treatment it self healed. He gets around great, but does have arthiritis in his hip joint and at some point in the future - (3-5 years maybe) will most likely need FHO surgery (average cost around $1,000). He will absolutely need joint medication and pain/anti-inflammatory medications given on a 'as needed' basis. As you can see in the video's it doesn't slow him down, however, he is playing at his pace and can stop when he wants - he is not a dog that will be good for going on hikes or runs - but still has the energy for those. Swimming would be an excellent benefit to him so that he can build muscle mass, have fun and help with pain management. He is the most loving, affectionate, fun and so loyal dog - already great families have chosen other dogs due to his old injury... please don't over-look this boy. His personality is HUGE. HUNTER arrived at the rescue on Tuesday, 25th February and is such a very sweet, gentle boy. He settled into his kennel and is doing great. He is friendly, loving and affectionate, he will follow me when i go out to his run to clean and enjoys his ears being scratched. He is friendly with the dogs that live either side of him and they enjoy each others company through the chain link fence. Hunter is a young boy and needs an active family to be able to give him the lifestyle that he needs. He needs to go on walks, hikes, adventures and get plenty of mental stimulation and be able to release his energy. As with all new dogs to families training is very important, not only for obedience but also so he can learn his boundaries, expectations and together during training with his new family and he can learn each others personalities and body language and a much stronger bond is formed. All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed. All dogs are fed Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison. Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor's second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMENT HOW HE WILL BE AROUND CATS OR LIVESTOCK. HUNTER is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
