TO BE KILLED 2/25/20 gets murdered today !! Need foster or adopter to save ! Please call Kat 516 457-3678 Great dog ! KIFI is incredibly shy, petite and sweet - but it takes some time and patience for her to show you her soft side, her trusting side. Who can blame her? Her parent was obviously not as in love with her as poor Kifi thought. Suddenly and unceremoniously dumped with her housemate at the kill shelter after they had a scuffle that basic 'dog management' could have prevented, she is now at risk of losing her life for her parent's utter failure! And her parent walked away without even leaving any nice notes to tell us what a good, sweet, loyal girl she is. You can see the hurt in her face, the anxiety, and yes, the hope. Kifi wants to be loved, she wants to feel safe, and she dreams of nothing but a quiet, calm, structured and loving home where she can decompress and then open her heart again to a special someone. She's so adorable, her little body, her bunny rabbit ears, and that gorgeous white blaze down her face. How can we resist? We can't and we hope you can't either. If you are an experienced foster or adopter in a home with no young children (under Age 13) who can give this precious beauty a soft place to land so her life can be saved, please hurry and message our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance! A staff member writes: 'Hi I'm Kifi! I can be a little unsure of new things- people and dogs- so I need someone to take the time to show me I can trust them. I love snacks so a lot of those can help win me over. If I learn you are the provider of treats I might be able to trust you a little faster. Once you're my friend, we can be the best of friends, and play and do fun things together. I'm definitely worth the time it takes to win my affection. So if you have snacks, a quiet place for me to be your one and only, and are willing to take some time to get to know me, I'll provide you with all the love in the world!' MY MOVIE! I love treats - https://youtu.be/Uq9TxBvC_Iw Manhattan ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Gray / White I came to the shelter as an Agency, 2/1/2020 Shelter Assessment Rating: New Hope Rescue Only Medical Behavior: 2. BLUE (GOOD!) AT RISK MEMO: At the care center, Kifi has been fearful and has not allowed for extensive handling. Kifi has been shown to come out of her shell a bit with time, but then quickly retreats and begins to display distance increasing behaviors toward the person. BASIC INFORMATION: Kifi is an approximately 2 year old, unaltered, medium mixed breed female dog. She lived with an adult and another dog but was brought into our care along with her housemate after the dogs were reported to have gotten into a scuffle. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR - Date of initial:: 2/3/2020 Summary:: Tense, freezes, allows handling when being fed treats ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Kifi so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. At the care center, she displays a high level of activity. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: Overall, Kifi has remained fearful at the care center, warming up to select handlers with time but having been observed to bark and growl at other handlers she sees or interacts with. While interacting with handlers she has warmed up to, she sits nicely for treats and will jump up for attention, but is easily redirected with treats. 2/2/20: Came forward with lowered body but retreated when saw the leash. Handler was able to give treats through the leash and lure Kifi to put her head through it slowly. Outside, Kifi was fearful, having a low body and moving away when handler moved towards her. She went to the bathroom immediately. Easily returned to kennel.
