Captain is a 5 1/2 year old Collie smooth coat. He is an intelligent, sweet and affectionate boy who has stolen our hearts. Captain has a skin allergy and is prescribed Apoquel that cost $100 per month. He also requires blood work every 3 months. He can develop ear infection and his ear flap can become swollen from shaking his head. He has been on antibiotic by mouth and drops in ear as well as a course of prednisone. Fish oil is added to his food and his coat and skin have improved dramatically. He gets a bath every 2 weeks with a medicated shampoo. His reaction to other dogs needs training in close contact like a vet waiting room. I have had to wait until the waiting room is cleared to bring Captain in to a room. He has made some improvement outside on walks; a command of 'Leave it' and a tug on his harness usually controls this behavior. He quickly bonds to whom ever feeds and takes care of him. He loves to be pet and have his but scratched and he dances when you do. He will put his head on your lap and grumble until you pet him. He loves tug of war, but do not leave him alone with toys, he eats them. He does well with my 3 1/2 year old grandson and even listens to his hand commands! He knows several commands and some tricks, he is totally house broken and does not need to be crated. Because of Captain's medical and behavioral issues, I cannot support him financially or devote the time needed for his continued training. I have spoken with the shelter where I adopted him and they do not have a foster at this time. Captain would do well in a foster home or adopted, but should be the only animal in the home. My hope is that he finds his forever home. I wish it was us.
