About Beasley

Poor Beasley was a puppy in my neighborhood who was very seriously neglected. A neighbor actually called the police twice (the non-emergency line) out of concern for him. When his owners tried selling him on a neighborhood listserve I said I'd take him if there were no other takers and once I said that, they stopped looking for a home. We have had Beasley for over a year and we dearly love him. Unfortunately, my original and larger dog randomly attacks him. Food is a trigger but often we have no idea what the trigger was. It is scary for all of us--sometimes my bigger dog even draws blood. Beasley is smart and was trained at some point. He knows sit, come, and even high five. I have trained him to sit and get a treat while joggers pass us by on a narrow path by our house. Like all beagles, Beasley is LOUD, cuddly, playful, inquisitive, adorable. I believe he is a pure-bred Blue Point Beagle, but I will get DNA testing to be sure. As I said, Beasley had a rough start in life. I get the feeling he was left alone in a crate far too long and too often. Also, I think his original owners used some well-meaning but wrong-headed discipline techniques. Even after a year and a half of me never showing him anything but affection and letting him sleep every night in my bed, poor Beasley still cowers if I approach him in a certain way and winces as if he expects me to hit him. I've never even considered giving an animal up, but I feel like little Beasley has already suffered a lot in his young life and deserves a very safe, loving home.
