About Duke

Adoption Fee: $75
American Staffordshire Terrier / Siberian Husky
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Duke wandered up to a friend's, property in late 2018. When no one stepped up to claim him, they were going to keep him because he was such a cool dude. He got into a scuffle with the other 'stray that stayed' and ended up nipping the kid who tried to break it up, so he was no longer welcome there. I took him in with hopes of finding him a home after the holidays, but, Duke was so good and he bonded really fast with my Aussie mix, that I did not push the issue. Duke is estimated to be 2.5 years old, 50 pounds of pur muscle, has since been neutered, is on heartworm, flea, and tick preventive, has been to basic obedience and was quite the hit there with his funny personality. He loves attention, I mean constant attention, he will follow you everywhere! He loves to ride in the car, but does not settle down easily unless exercised before hand. He has done great at the kennel the couple times they have gone and not shown any agression, but he is still young and can get hyped up or rambunctious very quickly. Duke has a high prey drive and will climb/jump my 4' fence in a heartbeat to chase something in the yard he deems interesting. He is crate trained used to a kennel while I am working, but he does not like it. I do love this dog and want him to be happy, but I do not have the patience or energy he needs. I work and am gone more than 14 hours a day then too tired to do much with him when I get home. I can't leave him loose in the house or yard because I do not trust him to not be distructive or jump the fence when I am not there, and I don't want anything to happen to him. Duke would be a FANTASTIC agility dog as he loves to jump over things and run like a deer, he just needs someone with more time and energy to spend with him than I have, he does listen when worked with on a regular basis. He would love to be someone's everything and I think he would do best with more than one person in the household so he always has someone's attention, the more the merrier for him! Duke is not in immediate danger, this is his home as long as he needs, but none of us find this an ideal situation. While both dogs get along great 90% of the time, they are also jealous of each other in relation to me or my attention. Because of Duke's need to always be 'the one', there is not enough of me to satisfy them both. I knew I do better with just one dog, but I thought it might be different this time, it isn't. I really just want a better situation for him, because I am going to be downsizing soon and worried he will become more anxious with even less yard/house to run around in, to the point I won't be able to take care f him any longer. If you think you can be the light of this silly boy's life, please contact me for more information or to set up a visit. He currently lives in the Arab/Guntersville area. Duke comes with his crate, toys, bowls, several days of food, and his vet records.
