About Scout

Scout is a male, 11-year-old, 70ish pound Alaskan Shephard mix. He has been the love of our family since he was 2 months old. Our family has grown up and left the area. Work requires too much time away traveling and for Scout's happiness we need to find a new home for him. About Scout: Scout is a happy, confident, sometimes obstinate but adorable runt of his litter. His brothers and sister weigh 40-50 pds more than him. He loves home but is always exuberant about taking a walk, hike, jog, or just going out on errands. Around the house (he is housetrained) his favorite place is laying next to your feet. Scout has a very sweet nature but can be sensitive to too much attention from random strangers, He has never bit anyone and will let you know when he feels overwhelmed. He gets along with most other dogs but at times personalities can be reactive. He grew up with our cat and they are great friends, but it might take an adjustment time for him to acclimate to other cats. As far as children, Scout is a family dog. He is very devoted, but he does need to be respected and not crowded, so he may be better fitted for a home with children over 8 and an owner who is reasonably firm. He might be perfectly fine with younger children (he puts up with my 8 month old grandson who likes to try to poke Scout's face) but he hasn't been around toddlers so hard to know for sure how he reacts. He doesn't have any medical issues although he is a senior and is having more difficulty jumping up into the back of trucks. We are looking for someone or a family who wants a new best friend, family member and devoted companion. His new home will preferably have a fenced yard or enough land for Scout to explore maybe even a dog or cat to become new buddies with.
