About Vinnie

There's nothing quite like the energy and silliness of a sweet pup with a happy and loving personality...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Vinnie, at just 18 months old (such a great age..old enough to have left his puppyish behaviors behind and young enough to have many, many healthy and active years ahead) and a perfect 20 lbs (such a great size for hiking the Colorado trails as well as accompanying his family everywhere a sweet, smaller dog is welcome) was facing euthanasia due to overcrowded shelter conditions. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and couldn't turn their back on this gorgeous guy with a great temperament. Vinnie has so much love and kindness in his heart (although initially shy until acclimated..then the sweetest guy around) that his plight couldn't be ignored and he was rescued just in the knick of time. Vinnie is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of his temperament-testing earned him a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. This Pom/Sheltie mix is also incredibly beautiful...with a gorgeous pure black coat that is so cottony-soft and shiny that you just want to snuggle him all day. In order to keep his coat healthy and shining, Vinnie will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (5-star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are important for life-long coat care and longevity). Vinnie is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's the world's greatest snuggler and has a strong, puppyish desire to be loved...and returns that devotion a thousand times over. Vinnie is super- smart and very engaging...very typical of both the Pom and Sheltie breeds. Both are known for their sense of humor and fun-loving, positive slant on life. Since Vinnie is a younger pup, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - Vinnie will form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through positive reinforcement/force-free group obedience classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with great behavior. It's for these reasons, that we aren't willing to adopt Vinnie to a family that doesn't choose a training opportunity for this super-smart dog. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement (force-free) trainers in your area. We're open to Vinnie finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a very sweet, extremely loving and super-smart pup. A younger family would also be great that either works part-time, from a home office or at a pet-friendly workplace. Vinnie is too sensitive to be left home alone for the very long hours of a full-time job. Vinnie will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 2/15/20.
