About Maya

American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

This Foster Friday I am excited to present Maya! I can only watch her right now because my personal dog is away (that is how much I love Maya). My apartment will not allow me to have two dogs over 60 lbs otherwise this girl would be mine. Maya is a Lifeline FCAS resident and is currently under my foster care. Before I dive into her AWESOME personality, I wanted to put it out there: if you do have other dogs, that are balanced and gentle, I believe Maya can be trained to exist with them. It would be a slow introduction and she would have to be crated a lot (which she is used to), but I am willing to pay for work with behaviorist group, Halo K9 Educators to get her to a good place. You can always foster first to test the waters. I've worked to create boundaries with her so she doesn't have to think about making decisions and her stress level has decreased greatly. She is just amazing. Maya is 60 lbs, HW- and estimated to be 2 years old. Awesomeness: -great with all humans -zero leash reactivity (even to other dogs!!) -affectionate, gentle, loving, chill, CRATE TRAINED, NO SEPARATION ANXIETY, HOUSETRAINED -good with kids (read: this does not mean you can have your kids climbing her, hugging her and antagonizing her. With any dog, especially shelter dogs certain movements can take them by surprise. It's your responsibility to teach your kids how to be around dogs-which should really only be to help with training and give guidance until the dog has settled) Ideal environment: -Household with zero dogs or cats or with a current crate and rotate structure already in place -Household with a balanced calm dog then you can ease socialization in (again she can be crated for a long time and honestly, it's not ideal but better than being killed or in a shelter in a run for 24 hours only seeing daylight every other day) **If you can't adopt, can you foster? I am starting a foster train and have someone lined up for the 21st through March 6th- can you commit two weeks after that? ***if you can't foster please follow Maya's story @ and share her stories and post with your network. Please see my contact info on the flyer and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks All!
