This pretty girl is China. She is a 9 year old, 9 pound Chihuahua who was owner surrendered to us. Full disclosure: China is very wary of new people and situations and she shows fear and uncertainty by growling and biting. The good thing about China is that she will come around if you initially leave her alone and don't force interactions. She spent a few days hiding in a crate when she first got to her foster home. After she decompressed and realized that her foster mom wasn't a bad person, she came out of her crate, jumped up on the sofa, and became a different dog! Once China accepts someone and accepts them, she can be very sweet. She has become very loving and attached to her foster mom and wants to be with her and in her lap all day long. However, a new person will have to let her warm up to them in her own way and time. She's a sweetheart once she comes around if someone will give her a chance, but that won't happen overnight! She is ok with other dogs, but she does want her foster mom's attention most. She definitely would be fine as an only dog. She walks well on a leash, is house trained and sleeps in a dog bed at night. She has not been tested with cats or kids and a home with small kids is a hard no. China needs somebody who is going to give her a lot of time and attention and understand that it will take a few days for her to not want to eat you. Once she decides she likes you, she does a complete about-face... from growling and biting to being one of the most lovable dogs her foster mom has ever had! China is up to date on shots, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. She is spayed and has had a dental. She is also heartworm positive and has started treatment. The treatment involves 30 days of Doxycycline, given twice a day, followed by 12 months of Ivermectin. She will be retested at that time and, if still positive, we will provide another 6 months of Ivermectin and retest at the end of the 6 months. This will continue until she tests negative. The rescue supplies the medicine and pays for the tests until the heartworms are gone! China is a beautiful little girl who really deserves a loving, patient person who will give her lots of love for the rest of her life!
