About Weenie

Adoption Fee: $300
Chihuahua mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Weenie is a 2 year old Chihuahua mix who weighs 15 pounds. He came to us from a New Orleans shelter. He was recently adopted but returned because he was a bit too aggressive with the other dog in the home. He probably would be best as an only dog or in a home with a bigger non-aggressive playful dog. This boy loves to play! He likes being around women and is very happy just sitting near his foster mom. He is very good with her and follows her everywhere. He likes being petted and sleeps in the big bed with her at night. However, he takes a little time to warm up to men. If a man has food he will let his guard down though! Many dogs who behave this way were just not socialized with men when they were puppies. Also, to a dog, men can be intimidating. They may be taller and bigger, have deeper voices, and may have different types of features. From a dog's perspective, these things can be scary, but his behavior can be worked with and modified. Weenie is potty trained for the most part, except for an accident once in a while. That may just be an adjustment to his new home and his foster mom is working with him to get him to that 100%. Weenie enjoys going for walks, but he's a bit of a barker, again most likely in reaction to the unknown! He is playful and good with other dogs overall, but can exhibit food and toy aggression at times. He is not good with cats. Weenie has not been kid tested and we do not recommend a home with children based on his current behavior. We wish we knew more of Weenie's story, but think it's clear he has not been exposed to much and is generally scared of the unknown. He just needs someone with patience and understanding to work with him. He is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. His neuter is scheduled soon and is covered by the rescue as long as it is done at our vet. We hope someone sees his potential and will help him be the pet he was meant to be!
