About Maya

Maya is the sweetest, most beautiful Pom who has a heart on her head (markings of a heart on the top of her head). She came into our care after surviving a life of breeding in an Amish puppy mill. She is 7-8 years old and weighs 11 pounds. Fortunately, the farm where she came from had indoor/outdoor runs, so she already taught herself to do her business outside. She is super sweet and does have some of the typical behaviors you will find with puppy mill survivors. She is fearful of hardwood/vinyl plank flooring and needs a home where she can roam freely on carpet or carpet runners. Maya has never been on a leash and freezes like a deer in the headlights, so a fenced yard is required. She should also have a family without small children as she is just getting used to normal life, so a quieter home would benefit her most. To sum it up, she needs carpet, a fenced yard, and no small children. Although we did find Maya on the couch once, she hasn't had the courage to try it again on her own; however, she wants you to pick her up so she can sit with you and sleep in bed next to you. As for her health, she's good to go. Most of Maya's teeth were missing or had rotted by the time we got her. She had a dental cleaning and her 4 canine teeth remain. She did have a small, pea-sized mammary mass, which is common with female breeders. The lump was removed, and the biopsy determined it was benign. Maya also has bilateral grade III luxating patellas, which is common for small-breed dogs. Her knees do not bother her one bit and she may live her entire life without any issues. Along with a dental, Maya has been spayed, microchipped, brought current on rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella vaccines. Maya's adoption fee is $250 (discounted to $150 for seniors 65+).
