About Loretta

Adoption Fee: $375.00
German Shorthaired Pointer
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Our lovely Loretta is a grand old gal, who needs a quiet, calm retirement home to spend her golden years. She recently joined us from a rural New Jersey Animal Shelter, where she spent some time after roaming the countryside as a stray. When no bereaved owner came to claim her, she was placed in the shelter adoption program, only to be passed over because of her age. At 12 years of age, Loretta became just one more homeless stray. Seems that everybody wants to experience puppy hell, and too few people appreciate the considerable benefits of having an older dog, who is well past the puppy mayhem stage. She came to our rescue so that we could cast a wide net, and find her just the right adopter. When Loretta arrived, she was underweight at 55 pounds, and it took some time to rid her of intestinal parasites that she picked up as a stray. We started Loretta on a treatment plan, probiotics, as well as a weight gaining diet, and adopters should continue her on a healthy diet to keep her at optimal weight. Loretta appears to be a pretty German Shorthair Pointer, with a black and white color pattern. Her short, flat coat is easy to groom, and Loretta enjoys the grooming process. As a senior girl, Loretta has quite a bit of pep in her step, despite the arthritis slowly creeping upon her. She has responded well to herbal remedies recommended by our vet, and has great mobility, although sometimes she might need help getting into a tall SUV. Loretta is a gentle, loving girl, and she seems laid back, demure, and enjoys the company of her people. She seems to have a slight sadness about her, and is likely feeling confused and disoriented with the rescue process. Loretta has a very genial nature. She is a sociable dog, and while she has had little background in obedience, she has grasped the basics and seems to enjoy the training exercises. She certainly is food motivated, and responds well to to positive reinforcement training techniques. Loretta is easy to walk on lead, and has a moderate exercise level. She would be happy with a few leisurely to brisk leash walks daily. Loretta would be a great choice for a single or couple, a recent retiree or senior. She is a fantastic companion dog, and loves to stretch out on the couch withn her head in her special person's lap. She could easily do well in an apartment lifestyle, and can be trusted home alone for short periods of time. Loretta could easily join a multidog home, with proper introduction and supervision. She is a pretty good all-around companion dog, and needs to be in an environment where her golden years will be spent as the light of someone's life, rather than considered an afterthought. Loretta has good house manners, and is house trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Loretta is in great health and has been spayed. She has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
