About OAKLEY

Adoption Fee: $550
Bichon Frise
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

OAKLEY was saved with 31 other dogs from a breeding situation that was not too good. Oakley is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm/tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He weighs around 13 pounds and is estimated to be around 7-12 months old. When we picked OAKLEY up he had been living in a bedroom with many other dogs, none were fixed and were all very smelly, not house-trained and marked all the time. Being at the rescue with access to outdoors Oakley and his family have learnt the dog door and enjoy going outside in the fresh air. Although he does use the dog door to go out, he is not going to know to let you know he wants to go outside and so the family must be prepared to work on house-training and understand this could take time. OAKLEY is a happy-go-lucky boy who is very friendly and affectionate. He is still young and so needs a family that does get out on walks and is willing to take him on adventures and let him start enjoying life outside of a bedroom. Oakley has had no training at all and so an understanding family is needed to work on not just house training, but leash training and basic obedience, he seems he wants to please so with time and patience it most likely won't be hard. OAKLEY does need a proper grooming, he has been given a few baths whilst here at the rescue and did great, but he needs to be cared for properly and regular groomings be done to be sure his coat stays in good condition and doesn't get matted which can be uncomfortable and painful. Grooming can be expensive, so please be sure this is an expense that you can afford and have time to take him for. Since Oakley has come from an 'in-breeding' situation it is vital that his vet knows this and annual check ups, with blood work if advised be done, to rule out, or catch any potential conditions as he gets older. Oakley has been great with all the other dogs and people he has met, we have not seen him with cats or livestock so cannot comment on how he will be around them. OAKLEY is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the Adoption Info tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. https://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/info/adoption ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. e home the one they like and that the dog likes them. All of the dogs are located at the rescue in Sebce, Maine and families must, once approved to adopt, make an appointment to come and meet them - we do not transport dogs to families. They are available for an adoption fee of $550. Please do not think about adopting one, or two of these dogs because they are cute and came from a bad situation - dogs that need grooming can be a lot of work and be expensive with grooming appointments often needed every 8-10 weeks. Not grooming is not an issue as they do matt very easily and matting is painful and can cause infection. I am not going to be able to answer individual questions at the moment so please research the breed, talk to your vet about potential health issues, talk to a groomer about frequency and cost and think if you have the lifestyle for a cute, but yappy, active sweet little dog. If interested please go to the rescue website and complete and submit the adoption application - provide references that are flexible and available since not being able to reach references or playing phone tag, is the main reason families miss out on adopting the dog.
