About Cowboy

Adoption Fee: $395
Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Cowboy is a young, rambunctious, red tri mini Aussie weighing 34 lbs. He only needed a few days to settle in to our home for his playful side to come out. He came to us extremely underweight, but has gained several pounds in his month with us, and with another couple lbs will be at an ideal weight. Perhaps because he was so underweight and not fed properly, he has a voracious appetite and a slow-bowl feeder was a must, as well as someone to watch and make sure he doesn't eat both dogs bowls' of food! Cowboy is a big ball of energy, like most Aussie pups and LOVES to wrestle with other dogs. Our older Aussie appeases him with several wrestling sessions a day, but Cowboy clearly has way more energy to spare! He will definitely benefit from having another energetic sibling who will run and play hard with him, especially if that dog is slightly assertive to keep him in line and set boundaries. S He does seem to have a strong herding/prey drive, so very small dogs in the home would NOT be ideal. I'm guessing cats would have a similar reaction, but we haven't tested that. It only took about a week to get Cowboy bell-trained to go outside, and he's only had one accident in the house in the last 3 weeks. He's been able to hold it while I'm at work (max of 6 hours) but I wouldn't push it any more than that. Cowboy loves people and is SO excited to see everyone he meets! Unfortunately that means he wants to jump up and nip anytime he's excited'| which is pretty much all the time, haha.. So we are working on redirecting to toys/bones instead of jumping or biting, and remaining calm(er) when waiting for dinner, etc. Obviously more play sessions will help curb his energy level a good bit as well. Because of this tho, I would recommend NO small children in the home for the time being. He loves splashing around in our kiddie pool in the yard, so I'm guessing he might like swimming! He didn't fight one bit when I trimmed his nails, and didn't mind when I ran the vacuum cleaner either. He rides good in the car (although he wants to climb in your lap, so a doggy seat belt strap would be a good idea!), and doesn't pull too much on the leash, just tends to get underfoot. Overall he's a great pup with a very sweet disposition who will just need a very patient adopter to work with him as he learns impulse control and grows through his puppy phase! He is neutered, microchipped, UTD on all immunizations, and HW negative.
