About Phoebe

Adoption Fee: $325
Parson Russell Terrier / Fox Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Little Phoebe is a trooper! She has been through a LOT in the past 2 months. In early December, she was found on a cold night on someone's front porch. We took her into our rescue and saw immediately that her left rear leg was injured. We got her into the vet the next day. X-rays showed that her pelvis was broken in 3 places and she would need surgery to bring the pieces back together so they could heal. Our best guess is that she was hit by a car. She had surgery 3 days later. 6 weeks and $5K later, x-rays showed that her pelvic bone has healed (some soft tissue is still healing). Unfortunately, she went into heat so her spay has been pushed out to February 20. Once she is spayed, she will be available for adoption. Phoebe weighs 7 lbs and is estimated to be 1.5 years old. She has been heartworm and fecal tested (results negative). She is current on heartworm/flea/tick preventative and will be vaccinated and microchipped when she is spayed. She appears to be a Parson Russell Terrier. For a young terrier, she has been surprisingly quiet and calm - probably due to her injuries - but even now that she is better, she is still quiet. She spent most of her first 6 weeks in her foster home in a 3-square-foot pen and never complained about it. As she felt better, it was a little difficult to keep her calm so she wouldn't break the plate in her leg, but she has been SO good. Even with all of the pain she has endured, she has never snapped at anyone. She is a very sweet little dog. Phoebe is very smart, housebroken, a good eater, and is quiet all night long. She does well on a leash but is reactive to other dogs when we are walking her. Riding in the car, she whines initially but then does well riding in her car seat. She will bark at strangers but will quiet down once she meets them. She barks at new dogs in the house, but again, she quiets down once she meets them. She barked quite a lot at our Meet & Greet at Petco - all of the activity was a little overwhelming to her. Socializing her with shorter exposures in public places would be good for her. Phoebe loves playing with other dogs, so we would like for her to have a doggie playmate in her forever home. She will need space to exercise, and she has been a stray, so a fenced yard will be required for her. A home with older children would be fine, but because Phoebe 'mouth' plays, small children would not be a good fit. If you would like to meet Phoebe, she will be at a couple Meet & Greet events in February. On Saturday, February 8, she will be at the Petco at 300 E Stroop Rd in Kettering from noon to 2pm. On Saturday, February 15, she will be at the PetValu at 3201 Dayton-Xenia Rd in Beavercreek from 1pm to 3pm. If you have any questions regarding Phoebe, please email her foster mom at [email protected].
