About Cotton

Pomeranian / Shetland Sheepdog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Cotton is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. What isn't clear in this shelter photo is how truly beautiful this dog is with his golden/white coat and the engaging smile on his cuter than cute face. Cotton also has beautiful dark eyes filled with so much wisdom. Once he gets a sudsy bath and some great nutrition, Cotton will absolutely be one of the most adorable guys around. Cotton has a Cherry eye..this is a genetic disorder of the nictitating membrane (also called the third eyelid) that can present itself in the eyes of dogs and cats. This defect causes the gland to prolapse and protrude from the eye appearing to be a small red mass. Treatment for cherry eye is done under anesthesia to push the gland back into place. Farfel's has seen this condition many times and have always treated it successfully. Since Cotton needs to be neutered, our protocol is to combine repairing his cherry eye with his neuter surgery. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Cotton's neuter/cherry eye procedures. At 10 months old and 11 lbs, Cotton is a perfect weight to accompany his family just about everywhere a sweet smaller dog is welcome. A long walk or hike would speak to this little guy's love of the outdoors. He also loves snuggling after his puppyish energy has been met with backyard fun or fun, dog-friendly adventures. At day's end (perhaps his favorite part) Cotton would love nothing more than to snuggle close all night long. Cotton is every bit the young guy...fun and active. But at the same time he can be initially shy, warming up with a bit of time, kind words and yummy treats. Once Cotton is used to his environment, he is a happy, silly and playful guy..so much fun to spend time with. It's natural for this pup to express himself with a wagging tail and excited kisses of love. At this point in Cotton's development, he loves virtually everyone..be it human or canine. HIs best friends at his foster home are his foster mom's 5 year old, dog-crazy son and their 3 like-sized dogs. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Cotton to a family who expresses their devotion for him in many different ways. One of the gifts we feel that Cotton should receive is positive reinforcement group training classes. Through this once weekly, 8-week training protocol, Cotton will learn behavioral skills as well as understanding that his people are his leaders. This is incredibly valuable for a young dog and results in bonding and excellent behavior out in the world. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force free trainers in your area. Cotton's new family needs to have the motivation, energy and open heart for a young rescue dog. He will require behavioral guidance and tons of love to give him a positive attitude about the world. In return Cotton will be a loyal and loving best friend and the greatest lap dog ever. When this adorable puppy falls in love, he falls hard. He gives 100% of himself to his relationships with both his people and his canine companions. We envision Cotton being placed with dog-loving retirees..he would thrive on the attention and time retirees often give to their pets. A younger family that works from home, part-time or from a pet-friendly workplace would also be an excellent choice as well. Cotton is too sensitive a guy to be left alone for the long hours of full-time employment outside of the home. Cotton will be up to date on his vetting. While we request, and always hope that dogs will be neutered when they arrive from New Mexico, we're not optimistic that it will occur. If it doesn't, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Cotton to be neutered, microchipped and the repair of his cherry eye at one of our Colorado rescue vets. Cotton will be arriving on transport in Denver in early February (date will be provided once confirmed). Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Cotton, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
