About Hank

Adoption Fee: $50.00
Black Russian Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hank is a 5-year old, neutered male pure bread Black Russian Terrier (BRT). He was born on 5 January 2004. He is fully house trained and doesn't chew things he isn't supposed to. He weighs about 100 lbs, but surprisingly eats less than one might think. He is a 'divorce' dog, and he came to us as a foster last July. We thought we would be able to keep him, but we have three other BRTs, one of which Hank is not getting along, so he needs to go a home that has no other dogs. He came from a home with a cat, so he's okay with that with proper and supervised introduction. Hank is not aggressive by nature, but he is an alpha and defends the toys he thinks are his from the other dogs. He came from a home with children and he is okay with them as long as they're not too small. Teenagers would probably be okay. Hank doesn't like it when kids are fighting or wrestling and wants break it off and when that happens he nips. He hasn't hurt any kids, but the owner was concerned because she has three little kids and Hank was herding and 'correcting' them. Hank knows all basic commands and listens well, but if he's not watched he will chase squirrels and cars, and he'll counter surf for food; he's a thief in that regard, so no food should be left out unsupervised. In May 2019, before he came to us, he received a soft tissue injury on his right back leg chasing a car. The injury is fully healed. BRTs don't shed, they need to be brushed occasionally and groomed every three to four months. The longer the coat, the more maintenance it needs. Hank's coat is soft and doesn't mat easily, so keeping up with his coat is rather easy. Hank has medium energy. We call him the Tank because he's so laid back and stoic. He would make an excellent apartment dog. When he's inside the house he's quiet and stays close to his people. He rarely barks and only alerts to what he perceives as a danger. He likes to be outside, but not alone. He loves to roll and play in the snow. Hank is a real sweetheart who is extremely loyal and affectionate and needs to have that in return. Hank is AKC registered, but the previous owner didn't provide the registration paperwork. He is up to date on his shots and heartworm test, and he has a clean bill of health.
