About Betty

Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

PLEASE NOTE THAT BETTY IS A COURTESY POST AND THE CONTACT NUMBER IS AT THE END OF THE POST : UPDATE for interested rescues: A caring donor has made a generous gift to LBDR for Betty. For rescues who are interested in Betty, she will come to you with cash in her purse for your expenses! Little Big Dog Rescue's old dogs home needs to find placement for an active robust dog whose good health and all-day-long need to play ball outside make her a significant disruption to the milieu of a hospice dog and very very old senior dog group home. Betty is a ten year old GSD. She came to my rescue under incorrect information. We run a rescue for hospice and very very old senior dogs. The shelter that asked me to take Betty said that she would fit in to this calm milieu where the dogs mainly sleep. I take the kind of dogs that shelter outreach coordinators describe as needing a place to lay their head at the end of their life, dogs who 'should not spend their last days in a shelter.' Betty is highly active. She has no illnesses or diseases and is on no medications. She has no pain issues. She has been rejected by potential adopters, rescues, and our metropolitan shelter partner, because she has a terrible-looking spinal x-ray. Betty has spondylosis in two areas of her spine, the thoracic, and the sacral. The curvature of the spine in the sacral area is almost 'hairpin' and therefore her back legs are fused at the hip. She bunny hops. She is capable of walking but only for a few steps. Then she starts bunny-hopping, because this is what she has done since birth. Betty plays outside from the moment she wakes to the moment she goes to sleep. She weighs 40 to 44 pounds depending on the weather (how much playtime she gets). Betty likes to chase a ball. She is ball-driven, not a food hound. Little Big Dog Rescue can no longer shelter Betty. We have had her in the group home with the hospice and seniors for several months. She is a wonderful dog, loving, intelligent, sweet, dog-friendly, cat-friendly, house-trained, doesn't dig her bed (nice), loves car rides, tries very very hard to please but SHE WANTS THAT BALL. There is nothing wrong with Betty. She is a highly active dog who needs not to be in an old dogs home. Her residence at Dot's Really Old Dogs Home is threatening the future of the Home. Betty is located in Monterey VA. Contact me, Dot Terry, at [email protected], or message on our page, or call 540 468-3096 (landline) or 540 280-4092.
