About Minnie

Dachshund
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Minnie is a dignified girl who, In her later years, was saved from a hoarding/breeding facility in rural Texas. She is overweight due to a poor diet (as evident in her photo) with some hair loss from lack of coat care. Minnie has already started a green bean/premium kibble diet for weight loss with a salmon oil supplement for coat care and excellent general health. A compassionate rescuer was made aware of the plight of Minnie and took pity on this sweet and beautiful girl. She fell in love with Minnie's sweet as can be personality and the sad look in her wise eyes that, despite years of hardship, still held a flicker of hope for the future. Luck was on Minnie's side that day...the rescuer made a call to a Farfel's volunteer asking if it was possible for Farfel's to take his sweet Doxy into our rescue. She spoke of Minnie's kind spirit that deserved to be recognized for all the joy she could bring to a loving and respectful family. The decision took seconds...after she held her close and Minnie snuggled in with so much love and trust, our rescuer knew this sweet girl was coming home with her. Farfel's was contacted hours later and we happily accepted sweet Minnie into Farfel's Rescue. Minnie, at a 16 lbs (such a perfect size for neighborhood walks as well as lap-sitting) and approximately 10.6 years old has healthy years left to be a full-time best friend. (Dachshunds often live to a very ripe old age). Minnie would be such a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for that wonderful spirit in their lives. She will be by your side to hug and love on..a kind and loving being to hold close when the challenges of the world seem overwhelming. At the same time, Minnie is a low-maintenance girl who also has the ability to keep herself busy (or take a nap) while her family is involved in other things. Minnie's vet assessment was good. It was found that Minnie requires an inexpensive med for her heart. She started it when she entered foster care and it's turned her life around. She's now spry, active and very happy. Her favorite sports are playing with her foster's 4 month old puppy and joining in on the antics of the 3 cats You can just see the smile on her sweet face...it says all is perfect with her world! It was found that Minnie's coat had been sadly ignored...this fortunately can be cleared up with excellent nutrition combined with a daily salmon oil supplement. Minnie will require a lifelong commitment to periodic sudsy baths and brushing. Through this nutritional and grooming regimen combined with less stress in a loving home, Minnie will once again have the gorgeous golden coat that speaks of her breed mix. After a short time with Minnie, her Texas foster mom described her in the following way....Minnie is such a sweet, super- smart and wonderful girl! My whole family loves her so much already. She has been great with both my dogs (like-sized to Minnie). She loves gentle older kids (younger kids can be scary with fast movements and loud voices). My neighbor's children who are 10 and 12 fell in love with Minnie and she with them! They had so much fun watching movies and eating popcorn with Minnie wedged so happily between them...such a touching scenario. Minnie is very respectful of my home and has been a welcome guest! She's a quiet spirit that absolutely loves to interact (in a very positive way) with my husband and all of our visitors. It's wonderful to watch Minnie go out into the yard, do some patrolling and then enjoy the sunshine with my 2 like-sized dogs. We also go on several walks each day...Minnie loves them and is perfecting her skills on a leash. Then the best part ever...Minnie lies close beside me on the couch with her beautiful head draped over my leg. She sleeps all night long right beside me on the bed without making a sound. What can I say...we've all fallen in love with this amazing Doxie! A family is going to be so lucky if they bring this gem in their family! Minnie may be a bit shy initially as rehoming is challenging for any dog...but with love and nurturing, she will absolutely shine. We envision Minnie with either retirees (she would be overjoyed with time spent and being at the center of a loving family) or a younger family who works at home, works part-time or would be able to take Minnie to a dog-friendly workplace. A mellow canine or feline friend would be great for Minnie as well. She would enjoy the companionship and cuddle times with her new fuzzy sibling. Minnie will be arriving on transport in Boulder over the weekend of 2/1/20 (we'll update once exact date is finalized). Applications are currently being accepted for our kind and loving girl. If interested in this beautiful ...and very cuddly best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
