About Jaak

Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Jaak (Jacque) was abandoned in a large park in West Orange, NJ. The woman who found him thought he was a good dog, liked to be touch, rolled over. She thought she wanted him, but changed her mind. I came in to evaluate him as he was a barker and Control people did not check if he was microchipped. Within a half hour Jaak was literally eating out of my hand. He was not neutered, had a flaming ear infection, very food motivated, enjoyed playing with ball. I thought he was between 1-2. He was not microchipped. I couldn't bear the thought of his remaining in the shelter when this woman changed her mind. I took Jaak as my last Lab died over a year ago. My goal was to help him be less traumatized. He had been crate trained. He was neutered June 25 and my vet took care of the ear infection soon after my taking him May 12, 2019. As Jaak has bonded with me and less stressed and filled out...he is probably 2 and a half and weighs 57lbs. My vet feels 58 is perfect for him. He is field line and he is discovering squirrels in Central Park and shows high drive to chase as well as flush out birds. He needs a large fenced in yard and people who are home. He is a very vocal dog...communicating different wishes. He is bright & very trainable. Now that I have his attention, I have begun some training. He is reactive to certain breeds and shows aggression, but that is getting under control. I think Jaak has the potential to be an excellent companion dog who would enjoy participating in activities ...nose work, maybe Agility. He needs Obedience classes. I am in my 70s live in an apt. building in NYC. He needs the right environment and someone who has the time and energy to put into working with him.
