About Mattie

Mattie is a 12 year old female Poodle, about 10 pounds. Mattie is one of the 9/11 hoarding group and was in the very worst shape of the bunch. Matted to the skin (hence her name Mattie), rotten teeth, skin infections, now deaf from constant ear infections and arthritis from not being able to properly walk on her feet due to the mats. She has come a long way and all her medical needs have been addressed, including an extensive dental. Mattie is a calm, quiet, cuddler. Rarely barks or make a noise, affectionate and warms her way to your heart through her thumpy-thumpy fast tail. She is timid with new situations and new people. She still prefers to be hand fed but occasionally will eat from a shallow bowl. She loves a good lap and snuggle and will be content for hours. She just wants to be with her person. She is OK with other small, low energy dogs but doesn't like dogs who like to get into her personal space. She has some issues with her spine and back legs, and would do best in a adult only home or with no small children. She doesn't navigate stairs well, so she is best in a home without stairs. She can go upstairs if she wants, however goes downstairs sliding on her belly and falling -so she will most likely just sit and wait for you to pick her up and bring her down any stairs. She is potty trained as long as you offer to take her out and wait for her to do her business. And she really likes soft treats as a reward. She still needs work with a leash and would do best with a fully fenced yard. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
