About Jerry

Westie mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

5/5/20 ADOPTION PENDING JERRY IS NOT A WESTIE, BUT THIS SIGHT WILL NOT LET ME PUT HIM DOWN AS JUST A TERRIER. Jerry is a 2 year old male Terrier mix, about 16 pounds. Jerry is a people person - or, well, a people dog, anyway. Though definitely cautious about new faces, he is quick to warm up to anyone who offers him a head scratch, belly rub, or a few bits of hot dog. He loves laps; he's slowly learning to ask rather than just immediately launching himself into them like a lap-seeking missile. Though not a digger or chewer, Jerry definitely lets you know he's a terrier when he wants something, usually attention. He can be very pushy. Teaching him new skills and boundaries requires firmness and consistency, but if it pleases his people, he's happy to learn. He's crate trained, walks on a leash well, doesn't mind being picked up, and is taking to basic commands like 'sit' and 'touch' pretty quickly, though he'll absolutely try to turn training time into 'just pet Jerry' time if he thinks he can get away with it. As is only fitting of a terrier, he does have a strong prey drive; squirrels, birds, and possums are all meant to be chased in his eyes, so he's unlikely to do well with cats or other small critters, though he enjoys meeting other dogs. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
