'Ozzie' - Seeking a Forever Home Ozzie is a smart, sweet and cuddly little bear of a dog. He's very affectionate and loyal. Sadly, when his original elderly male owner died, Ozzie was admitted to a shelter in Salmon, Idaho last spring. Since then he's been cared for by different foster parents, which has naturally resulted in some anxious behavior. Ozzie is seeking a stable home where he can thrive. He's a bit shy and wary at first, but once introduced to new people and companions, he warms up quickly. You will find him loyal, devoted, and utterly adorable. Ozzie will need some training as he moves to a new family, as he does not consistently respond to basic commands. However, he's a quick and dedicated learner, and his combination of smart and devoted should make this a smooth process for the right owners. Like most cattle dogs, though, he sticks with you when walking and is not inclined to wander. Characteristic of the Australian Cattle Dog breed, Ozzie can exhibit guarding behaviors when nervous or flooded with social stimulation. If quickly approached around his head before getting used to his new people, an Australian Cattle Dog may exhibit nipping, and his personal space should be respected as he gets used to his new owners! Due to this behavior, kids may not be his favorite house mates, and we would prefer to home him with adults. As an Australian Cattle Dog, Ozzie does come from a herding breed known for chasing prey. Although he may be able to live with a cat after slow introduction, Ozzie may do best in a house without cats, due to this breed's tendency to chase cats. However, he's a calm mix of a dog, needing regular exercise but also regular snuggles as you become his new favorite people!
