About Maya

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Maya is a Malinois/Border Collie mix. She was rescued from a local kill shelter. She is very obedient for me and great with other people, dogs and cats. She is highly intelligent and will try to trade her 'baby' toy for table food. It never works, but she always tries to make the deal happen! The problem is that she is fearful of my husband for no apparent reason. He has never done any thing to her. She is fine with him outside, but in the house she barks and has nipped at him on three occasions. Each time was when he went toward her to offer affection or treats. I've tried to explain NOT leaning into a fearful animal! He is fearful of her, which is a big part of the issue, as well. She needs someone who knows how to give commands and understands fearful dogs.I fully believe that she can be 'reset' with this behavior. It took less than an hour for me to gain her trust at the shelter by ignoring her and allowing her to come to me. She would be great as a companion for a veteran or a strong willed female who wants a companion and protector. I would not send her anywhere with children. If you would like video of her.
