People often wonder what it's like to adopt an older dog. %A0Jersey here, and lemme tell ya seven things. %A01 - %A0'Senior' dogs at rescues and shelters need homes just as badly as the young'uns. %A0After all, we are all lapless. 2 - Adopting an older dog may safe its life. %A0Well, ok, this one doesn't apply to ME persay because I am safe and loved here at For Belle's Sake Rescue, but still, I deserve my own family right? %A0Why do I have to share with so many? 3 - Older dogs are not problem dogs! %A0That is true. %A0I didn't lose my family and home because I am a problem dog. %A0 4 - Older dogs usually come trained and understand at least basic commands. %A0Truth! %A0I know my name. %A0I know how to make my humans cuddle me. I have puppy eyes mastered. %A0And my business is done outside. %A0Shoot'|what more could you want? %A0Now I just need to teach YOU the rules of doting on a dachshund! 5 - You can teach an old dog new tricks. %A0Sure can! %A0And I am up to learn some! %A0Treats please. 6 - Older dogs are calmer and less energetic. %A0Well ok, this one may not apply either. %A0I am pretty busy and my foster family laughs at how quickly my little feet tap tap tap through the house. %A0But I am a major cuddler! 7 - Older dogs make instant companions. %A0Pretty much. %A0I love you already and we haven't even met. So, that about sums it up. %A0Adopt me. %A0Now. %A0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intake Date: 12 January 2020 ----- Breed: Dachshund ---- Age: 8 yrs ----- Size: %A05 lbs----- Status: owner surrender ----- Compatible with: dogs, cats, children ----- Suitable for: Home with fenced yard, apartment with adequate leashed exercise. ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Possible perineal hernia. %A0Will be repaired before adoption. ----- Additional Notes: %A0This lovely little lady came to rescue when she struggled with sharing her adult companion but she is amazing here. She adores our children, is great with the other dogs, great with cats, and finds the highest place on the couch to perch and watch. %A0She loves soft beds, and warm laps. %A0She is very energetic. %A0Jersey is a cuddler galore. %A0She loves to be in your lap. %A0Typical with dachshunds, careful consideration must be made to prevent back injuries (no jumping off of high things). %A0Jersey is a bit thin so we will work to get her thickened up to a healthy weight. %A0So far she really likes the senior food we feed our dogs so paws crossed! %A0Jersey lost her brother 4 years ago at the same time a new baby came to the home. %A0My guess is that was quite a difficult time for her and a fresh start is all she needs. %A0-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org.
