About Nashoba

I pulled this beautiful boy from a high kill shelter a couple weeks ago. I worked with dogs for years (in the past) and hoped to help this beautiful boy find his calm center. He's done great in a short period of time. He came with substantial source guarding and anti-leash skills but with affirming practices has almost entirely transformed. He still needs leash work but has improved dramatically since I brought him to my space. His source guarding is nearly gone. I can handle his face and mouth when he's playing and eating. I don't ask a lot of him.. don't push it. But, its clear I am now trusted which is his primary issue with people. He's a complete lamb chop with me when we are in a space that is predictable, safe and quiet. He is high energy but knows how to relax when he realizes he is safe. He plays beautifully. Loves to engage now.. His vocabulary is expanding rapidly. He's an extremely sensitive male who does not want to look vulnerable .. but in fact is very tender. He does however come with some stuff he needs help with.. He is highly reactive to life outside what he learns is safe. He can not be around small animals. I've not risked him around small children, but he's been with me in a large facility and is rapidly recognizing wheel chairs, people with disabilities etc are allowed to pass without his company. Soon after he opened up he wanted to meet everyone. He's good with men and women but he trusts women more. He needs a person who understands GSDs and how to help him decompress from over stimulation. He is an extremely smart boy who clearly WANTs to do the right thing but need clear guidance and a gentle hand. It must be a balance or he can not hear clearly. Someone was heavy with him and he has been pushed far enough if you know what I mean. I trust him implicitly in just 2 weeks. I worked with dogs like him years ago and can fill you in on the details. But, this beautiful boy will make someone a remarkable companion but he must have someone who understand the balance between guidance and tender patience and play or he will create problems for you and him. HIs vocabulary is growing rapidly. This is NOT the dog for police work... he could ONLY be a dog for S&R if someone can patiently help him to learn hoot deal with sensory overload when he's outside. He is a very different dog outside and seems to have no clue what the outdoors entail. While Nashoba (Choctaw for wolf) is a very tender boy, he is intensely protective and has substantial issues with other animals that will need to be addressed in order to walk him outside without trouble.
