Adoption Fee: $150
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Location Near Kansas City, MO Having the courage to post this and not let our sadness prevent our Shadow from finding himself a more compatible home. *long post Shadows Story: We adopted Shadow almost 1 year ago. He was waiting for his forever family for some time. He is a hard breed to adopt out and he is DEAF. That didnt scare us. Were are young family and we were ready for him. We immediately put Shadow in private training. He is extremely smart, as most ACD are. Shadows Best Attributes: %BD%BD%BDS -Up to date on shots -Neutered -Loves to run. I run him almost daily 6+ miles. -Loves Toys -LOVES shredding cardboard and paper! -Loves playing fetch, but is still learning the concept -Loves shallow water he can enter to swim -Loves boat rides! -Gets a long with active dogs, and loves to play. -Dependent on his training collar and gets excited when he sees it come off the charger. -Knows sign language/visual commands -Huge with fawning. -Seems to do best with 12+ in age with children. -Kennel and potty trained Shadows negatives: %BD%BD%BD%BD -Resource Guarding of humans. ** NO issues with food, toys guarding/aggression. -Nipping * his nipping and sometimes bites (has only once broke the skin) has all been related to guarding myself (mom of the house). He has claimed me as his and doesnt want to share. -He seems to nip my 8yr & 3yr old the most. Especially my 8 yr old. They have never had a good relationship and main reason to rehome, so my son feels safe in his own home. What We Have Done To Remedy The Issues: - 2 Weeks intense board and train (with the same trainer when brought home initially) -Working him more. He likes jobs -More/ longer walks to burn energy -Not allowed on furniture or beds *he tends to nip most when near/on myself in bed or on couch. -Controlled freedom and privileges *this is a restart method for him to learn his place in the family. What Shadow Needs In A New Home: %BD%BD%8F%BD -Adults only or children who are in their teenage yrs. -Acitve family. Runners, walkers, hikers! -Knowledge of using Training Collars *no deaf dogs rock methods -Younger Dogs -Most importantly will continue his training and understand that he is DEAF but not broken. -He is true to his ACD natures. Please no backlash or training advice. We have worked and worked to improve and prevent the reasons we need to rehome. He is not our first ACD. Our Gus is 18 1/2 yrs old and seems he will be making it to his 19th Bday! This is not the case of not knowing what we were getting into and giving up. The decision didnt come easy. We have spent thousands in training, loving him and being patient. He just does not get a long with our 8 yr old and we want to prevent a situation that will result in being put down. There is a $150 rehoming fee to insure his safety: (We are located near Kansas City, MO) -Training Collar worth over $200, Prong Collar, Leads -Willing to travel for the right family within reason. If you would like more info please send me a PM. I am willing to talk over the phone. I am extremely attached to him, so finding the right home is important but my kiddo is if more importance and why this needs to happen. Advice on close rescue's would be helpful as well. My husband has put a time frame on getting re-homed. His fear of something happening has hit the limit.
