About Chica

Adoption Fee: $200
Chihuahua mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Name: Chica Sex: Female Spayed/Neutered: Yes Breed: Chihuahua (short coat) Weight: 8 lbs now and I think 9 when full grown Height: about 9 inches at the shoulder Estimated Birthdate: 3/18/2019 Fence Needed: Preferred for playtime. Chica, right now, would not be a dog that could be trusted with any off leash activities. There is too much to see and do out there. She needs a home that is diligent in leashing her before the door is open if there is no security behind that door. Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Adoption Fee:$200 Date into Rescue: 11/20/19 Reason for being in rescue: Chica lived in a home with children who did not respect her body. When they pulled on her she finally nipped, and that got her a fast trip to an animal shelter with a bite history. At 8 months old and 8 whopping pounds. Special Needs: None noted What kind of home would be best for me: No children under 12 please. Small children pulling her ears got her here. She loves adults but kids have not been kind. Kids also open doors without thinking and that would not be good for Chica. What is my personality like: Once Chica trusts you, she is a classic puppy, loving and affectionate. She loves toys, especially anything that squeaks. She would hang the moon for a treat and is going to thoroughly enjoy positive motivation training if there is pupperoni involved. Chica still has not quite mastered crates yet so we're working towards a clean one and aren't there yet. It could be that as people oriented as she actually is, she is just unhappy when not sleeping with her people at night. A caregiver recently took Chica on a day trip to visit with her family. Here is her report. 'While spending the day with Chica I found out that she does like to go outside on a leash but she won't use the bathroom outside. I laid down pee pads in my house and she used them every time she is really smart. She did really good in the house. She also loves dogs and wanted to play but my dog didn't want to play with her because she is an older dog and Chica is just a puppy and has puppy energy. She is also teething so I got her this chew toy that is made for teething puppy's and she loves it. She opened up to my family really well they just had to give her time. She is a puppy and is wide open but she loves to just sit back on the couch and sleep she is such a great and amazing dog. She doesn't really bark a lot either which was really good. She is a sweetie and I love her.' How do I act when I first meet new people: When Chica first meets you, in the first few minutes she will expect you to sit down and wait. She needs to smell you. She needs to watch you. She's an analyst and she's checking out your body language and seeing how you act. It takes about 15 minutes for her to warm up. It's okay. Gives you time to check your messages and relax a bit. Don't worry, the time spent has a sweet reward at the end. Once you earn the that special place of trust, you can do no wrong. Chica loves you and all you are. Just give her those few minutes. Tips and Tidbits: Chica was reportedly was about 8 months old when turned in so we've estimated her birthday at 3/18/19. House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
