About Texy

Adoption Fee: $300
Dutch Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Baltimore, MD Texy is a 20-month-old Dutch Shepherd/Carolina dog mix. Originally from Texas, she made her way to Maryland in March of 2019. She was very nervous and scared when she first arrived to Maryland. Because of her breed, she is very alert and sensitive to sounds and her environment. Her big ears don't miss a thing! Texy weighs about 40 pounds, is micro-chipped, spayed and up to date on all vaccines and heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Video: https://youtu.be/GGpOJ3utOyc Texy is very athletic and loves to run and play. She is good on walks and hikes, but tends to pull on a leash. A front-attached harness eliminates pulling. Her favorite things are playing fetch and tug with her Kong frisbee or a stick. She is usually the fastest dog at the dog park. She loves to run, wrestle, and be chased. She plays well with other dogs but sometimes shows dominance with other dogs her size. Around smaller dogs and puppies she is always gentle. Texy is highly intelligent and tends to pick up new things quickly. She is very food motivated and will work for treats. She would do well in agility training courses. She loves to jump up on logs and benches and splash through puddles and streams. She does not chew furniture or destroy household items. She knows her toys and exclusively uses them. She is a powerful chewer and loves bully sticks and bones. She also loves toys of all kind - plush toys and other toys for tugging - and loves to pull them out to play. Texy is crate-trained and does well in her crate. She is used to spending a few hours in her crate while her owners are at work or out of the house. She does not need to be locked in the crate overnight. She is fully house-trained and never has an accident in the house. She is very good about letting you know when she needs to go outside. She also displays strong Shepherd tendencies - protecting and guarding. Through training she has learned to be comfortable in her environment. She has a good basic foundation in her training- commands like 'sit, lay down, stay, shake, and leave it' are followed consistently. She will do best in an environment without small children or cats. Older kids are fine. So far, she has been the only dog in her household, but she may do well with other dog siblings. She would do best with a yard with plenty of space to run. Texy would benefit from a stable, predictable routine and more training on her Shepherd traits. Someone familiar with this breed and their demands will find themselves with a loyal, lifetime companion. This is the kind of dog that will never leave your side.
