About Bodhi

Adoption Fee: $275
Mountain Cur / German Shorthaired Pointer
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Bodhi is a fun, friendly, playful, slim, trim, energetic and loving, 1.5 year old (born May 2018) 50-pound male Hound/ German Shorthaired Pointer/ Mountain Cur or possibly %A0Boxer mix looking for a loving guardian. This awesome fellow was adopted from our rescue when he was just a young pup and was returned when he was almost a year old. Poor Bodhi has been adopted and returned to Pal's Place a few times and we are really hoping to find him committed guardians that will give him time to adjust to a new environment, build trust and continue his training. This sweet and affectionate guy is generally very friendly and affectionate however he does exhibit some resource guarding issues and will nip if high value items are taken directly from his mouth. He is extremely food motivated and will drop anything he has in his mouth for a treat. His foster guardian has been working on the 'trade-off' game with him. He gets a high value item such as a bone and is asked to drop it for a treat. When he drops and backs away from it, allowing his guardian to take it, he gets the treat as as reward. He loves this game and is learning to surrender objects when asked and not forced. Bodhi can also get defensive when people reach for his collar or into his kennel if he feels stressed, threatened or scared, especially with people he does not know well. This boy is well-trained in commands, sit, down, and more and takes treats nicely from your fingers. He's housebroken and crate-trained. Bodhi loves taking rides in the car, playing with toys, hanging out with other dogs and going for runs/long walks with his humans. He still has a lot of puppy energy and can be a bit mouthy when he plays and when he is excited. Due to his resource guarding, he will do best in an adult only home. He is wonderful with other dogs and really enjoys their company. He has gone to doggie daycare and dog parks regularly and does very well in both situations. He will make an excellent running companion or friend for an existing canine with a similar energy level. Bodhi's ideal guardians will be experienced dog people who are firm but fair with him and who are really committed to working with Bodhi to help him be the best Bodhi he can be. To help ensure his next home is his forever home, Pals Place will cover the cost of private in-home training sessions so his new guardians can learn how to help him work through his issues and build a strong bond of trust. He really enjoys training and would be an excellent companion for someone possibly looking for a dog to train in canine sports (agility, flyball, lure coursing etc) His adoption fee to the rescue is $275. This fee helps to cover his medical expenses while in our care. He is up-to-date with vaccines, neutered, microchipped, fecal and heartworm tested. Since he is in a foster home, he can be seen by appointment only after an application has been received and approved. For more info or for an application, please email [email protected] Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for more than a few days after an application has been received and approved for a meeting. Please do not apply to adopt unless you are ready to welcome a dog into your home. 'ۢ Please email [email protected] for an adoption application and please put the name of the dog in the subject line. Please be sure to check your spam/junk folder; sometimes the applications end up in there!
