This girl.. she is everything on both sides of the sprectrum. By far the most loving lap dog for her one respected/bonded owner! She is a superior companion and lap dog, who wants nothing but to be at your side, and petted, every second of the day. She expects this. Her energy is very low, she really doesn't play at all except a rare whim of excitement (does do shiba 500's for about 30 seconds sometimes). I believe her whole life has been spent with 1 single person, likely a female, and likely an elderly. That person died at home, and I pulled her from the kill shelter. She is NOT a dog for a family, kids, or home with other animals. I will add that after a few months, she did become NON-reactive to ONE of my dogs, and my cats. But the other 2 dogs continue to be a problem for her (1 shiba, 1 chihuahua). She also feels threatened by other humans IF (and only if) they attempt to talk to her, or approach her. She seems to be fine with people if they completely ignore her. I am hoping to find one of those special middle-aged/recently retired women out there who have a special heart for rescued dogs, who are experienced with challenging ones, who aren't afraid to give them the time and patience they need to adjust and find peace. It took her 1-2 weeks to start letting me touch her, and from then on it was constant belly rubs, kisses, and constant companionship. Her having to change her life all over again is certainly going to be throwing her into another survival-instinct terror stage, unfortunately, but after a few weeks of ignoring her (feeding/walking only, not talking/petting), she will become your best friend out of need of survival. My hope is to stay in touch with her, and her new owner, and to assist how I can. I'd like this person to be within Maine, in relative circumference to the highway's, or coast, so it is easy to commute. This is not a dog for beginners, or inexperienced people. You should also not be gone from home for more than a few hours, nor take vacations unless she can go with you. But she will be the best companion and guard dog you will likely have, so long as you commit to strict protocol's for her interaction with other humans, and other animals. She is 9 yrs old, completely healthy (other than pudgy), only very mild hip dysplasia. SHE LOVES CAR RIDES!! I cannot get this website to upload my photos, so you will have to give me your email address to send photos.
