About Inara

Adoption Fee: $400
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Pure red merle Australian cattle dog (commonly a red 'heeler') (tail is either naturally stubby variant or docked) 5 years old 35 pounds Highly intelligent, very kissy, inquisitive but reserved about new things or new people Crate trained Fully potty trained Has not been cat tested, but so far ignores them Can be competitive with other dogs but wants to play Food defensive with other dogs Attentive and loving to small and large children, but will herd them and requires supervision with small kids. Inara responds to 'Nara' and is smarter and more beautiful than everyone in our house. She was clearly used for excessive breeding, and is now gaining back some muscle weight. She can master a command or trick in a couple minutes. Very social and eager to please, Nara is fully potty and crate trained and loves playing ball. She knows sit, stay, wait, stand, down, roll, come, drop it--and that's just so far. She is very physically affectionate, athletic, and strong, and would be a great running companion. Nara loves to eat and loves crunchy treats and sleeps well. She would likely cause some destruction if left alone for full work days without companionship or mental stimulation. She is good on the leash but has a tendency to pull. She is still easily startled out in the world and will back out of a collar, so walks safest on a harness. She is easily corrected because she wants to make her people happy. She can problem solve herself out of gates and fences in minutes, so requires constant outdoor supervision. She chases squirrels but not birds, and is protective of her people. She is very inquisitive about everything in the world and loves to explore, fetch, and research. As a herding dog, she loves to circle you up and get on top of objects or people or counters, and can get a bit mouthy when she gets excited about playing, but is easily redirected. She will happily jump up in the air into your arms and loves rubbing against your legs like a cat. Did I mention the kissing? So much kissing! Inara currently lives in a foster home in Texas. If you choose to adopt her then Rescue Road Trips will transport her north. The adoption fee includes transport!
