PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE CONTACTING RESCUE. SEE VIDEO ALSO ON THIS PAGE! Felix is a happy two-year-old boy rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. A DNA test revealed that Felix is a Parson Russell Terrier/Shih Tzu mix, with some Australian Shepherd and Rat Terrier in his line. Felix is a leggy guy that weighs about 17-18 lbs. (photos and video were done when he was first rescued, at only 14 lbs. so on the thin side). Felix has a scruffy coat, and based on that, we see him as a lower shedding dog. Felix definitely has a unique look. His body is mostly white but he has a beautiful tri-colored head and face, and eye-liner around his eyes (a Cleopatra look) so photos of him can look a bit harsh, and he is possibly cuter in person. Felix is a sensitive soul who responds best to a patient and gentle approach. He loves people and just wants to be included in daily activities and also learn new things to engage his need for mental stimulation. He gently greets visitors and has really come out of his shell during the time he has been with the rescue. He is a medium energy dog that is also content to lounge on the couch and watch T.V. with you or chill on a pet bed nearby during the day. Felix also loves other dogs. He loves to play and wrestle with his foster brother and seems reliant on having a canine playmate/companion in the home, as he pulls some of his confidence from the other dogs, taking his cues from them. He loves to go for walks together with the other two dogs in his foster home. Felix is also gentle in that he has accepted the house cats and foster kittens as part of his pack too. Like many newly adopted dogs, Felix will take some time to warm up to new people/new routine and seems slightly unsure, but once you give him time and show him, he is a great dog that will generally do well with people who will include him, play with him, and expose him to new things. Felix is crate-trained and potty-trained (however, potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He can use a dog door, and will also potty on walks. He will mark his yard outside, but has not leg-lifted inside, even with two other male dogs in the foster home. Felix is bright but does not know basic commands yet. He would benefit from a basic obedience class or from someone with dog experience who will work with him on things like 'come,' 'stay,' 'leave it,' etc. He really wants to do the right thing, and listens, with some gentle guidance. He also loves toys, which he distributes around the house, and enjoys chasing a ball and bringing it back to you. He is not a destructive dog, and is relatively quiet. The home we seek for Felix has another well-balanced and at least semi-playful dog in the home that Felix can follow and interact with. He seems to do best with another canine to be his role model. Some type of yard is a plus but not necessarily a requirement. As noted Felix is fine with cats, so both a dog and a cat would be fine! Felix is a good dog that merely happened on a bad situation, ending up at a high-kill shelter as a community stray, and whereby we have no idea what incurred prior. But we can see clearly that he is an inherently gentle and non-aggressive dog, with many pluses, great potential, and who just needs a chance at finding a solid and loving, forever home. NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and an appropriate sized wire crate works very well during a transitional phase. Felix is neutered, fully vaccinated, Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Felix, email Angel's Heart Dog Rescue at: [email protected].
