About Gunther

Hi, My name is Gunther! I know, I don't look much like a Rottweiler, but I've got the heart of one! I think at least one of my parents may have been a shepherd, but I'm not really certain. That's ok though, I'm a pretty cute pup if I do say so myself. I'm about 75pounds or total cuteness who would love to find a special someone I can be loyal to and hang on their every word. So how'd I become an honorary Rottweiler you may ask? Well, my foster mom saw me online and sent out a desperate plea to save me after finding out I was set to be euthanized because I was exposed to parvo after my kennel mate contracted it and passed away. Just so happens my foster mom had experience with parvo pups so they were all set up to be able to take me in and provide what I needed had I ended up with parvo too. Otherwise, my chances of making it out of the shelter alive were extremely slim. The awesome folks with Southern States Rescued Rottweilers agreed I could become an honorary rottie and worked tirelessly overnight to get all the paperwork submitted to the shelter before my deadline. The next day my foster mom came to pick me up and I was soooooooooooooo happy to see her. She had little people with her too! How lucky was I? Jackpot! After 2 weeks in quarantine...it was very boring mind you, I never contracted parvo so I was free to be a puppy again. I love people! Like, I really, really love people! I want to be with people as much as possible. I actually think I'm people. See, I don't really remember my siblings or my parents. I just know people. When I came to my foster home I wasn't quite sure about all these dogs and cats that were living there too. It took me a little time to get to know them and be sure they weren't going to do me harm. I've been in my foster home for awhile now and get along really well with all my foster siblings, 4 legged and 2 legged. Well, except one, but he starts it. He does scare me though and I will get defensive sometimes. My foster family keeps us separated but they are working with both of us to overcome our fear of each other. I get it...he came from a rough situation too and I'm bigger than he is so he's just as scared of me as I am of him. We've come a long way, but still have some work to do. I do love my foster sisters most. They really get me out and about running around and wrestling. I don't initiate it myself though. If I had a choice, I'd rather go for a walk with my foster people or just hang out with them. They have these furry animals called cats. Have you seen these things!? I tried to get a good look at them by sticking my face in their face, but one was always hitting me so I leave her alone now. The other one is big and scary. I think he's part dog. I don't mess with him. There's a little one too. She doesn't do much but sleep so I just let her be. I'm told I'm a good dog when I do. I really like being told I'm a good dog . Sometimes I get excited and jump up, but with the help of my foster family, I've been doing that less and less. I really just love them so much I want to be right there where they can reach me without having to bend over. Just looking out for them. I walk really well on a leash. Actually, I prefer to be walked. I like having my people beside me even when I go outside for a potty break. I love my people and will hang on every word if you let me. I like to be guided and directed and will do very well with time and training.....VERY well! I also know basic commands....sit, shake, am crate trained and know how to use a doggie door. I'd do well in a home as an only dog or with 1-2 other non dominant dogs. I'm ok with small children once I get over my initial excitement, but considering my size and that I still can't always control my jumping, I may be better suited to a family with bigger kids or in a home with dog savvy children. I also would do well in a single or coupled household who is looking for a dog to train and be a companion.
