About Teddy

Beautiful Teddy is 1.5 years old and weighs about 48 lbs being fostered in Belfair, WA. Teddy knows his name very well. And he's VERY smart! He LOVES toys! Fetching the balls, tug of war, being chased (inside/outside). He can run forever & not get tired (or pant)! He'd be a perfect partner for a hiker, runner or biker! He learned 'sit' in minutes. Working on 'down' (lying on the floor & mostly knows it), 'leave it' (when he chases the outside cats), 'off' (don't jump up), 'bring it here' & 'drop it' (for toys). He's good with most dogs. He has gotten snarky with some male dogs. He's done well with most other dogs around (esp while camping). He walks well on a leash, rarely pulls but he does 'helicopter' (walks in circles around you) as he walks so a shorter leash works best. A martingale may work well also. He rides in a car wonderfully, usually just settles down and sleeps (for longer rides). He will go sit/stand by the door or start pacing when he needs/wants to go out to potty. He's a 'timed' eater meaning he will wake you up when it's time (if you're not up). He loves a good feeding schedule, haha! We feed him 2 cups of taste of the wild salmon twice a day although he's a dog you could leave food out & he'd graze but with our pit who'd die from over eating given the chance, we can't leave his bowl full. He's good about being touched when eating, VERY gentle taking food from your hand. He is very food motivated & will sit next to you or under the table if you're eating (his way of begging). He's usually really good about being left free in the home while being gone. We started kenneling him (tell him to 'kennel up') but he doesn't like it so I put a treat (meat) in the very back & he'll mostly go in (keeps 1 foot outside which I gently put in praising him with 'good kennel up!'). He does not like the kennel and he can be vocal about it. We are working on this. I put toys inside also as I want it a comfortable place and not a scary place (I don't forcefully make him go inside). We've started leaving him out again & so far so good. He likes to be with his person. Will sit on your lap, will stand up on you (back feet in the floor & front feet on you) & be hugged/kissed. He loves to sleep with you, snuggled up against you, covered by a blanket & sleeps well with our other dog. He LOVES to be petted & loved on. He's a very gentle dog in this regard, affectionate. He has a med-med/high prey drive & loves to chase. One of our outside cats will run & he chases but hasn't hurt her, the other likes dogs, will let him sniff her & get really close but she's unsure because of his energy (he startles). He sniffs her & for the most part has been respectful of her & hasn't tried to harm her or any of the other cats. I think he wants to play sometimes. Teddy is a wonderful boy and we would like to find a dog-savvy, active home for him, or someone able to take him to work so there is enough stimulation all day for him.
