About Avery

Chihuahua / Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

1 year old female Chiweenie, about 10 pounds. Avery is a sweet, energetic, cuddle bug who was left behind when her family moved out of town. She has made herself right at home at her foster's house, getting the zoomies most every night and races around the house. She does great with dogs of all sizes and tolerates cats who put her in her place. Stuffed squeaky toys are her absolute favorite thing to play with. And she will do almost anything for a bully stick or similar chew treat, which she will then attempt to hide in the couch cushions before settling in to chew. She likes to burrow in the blankets or sheets to make a nest before going to bed, or will cuddle up beside her foster mom's head on her pillow for bedtime. She will happily go in and out of the doggy door with everyone else, but still has a tendency to go potty on the bedroom carpet once in a while. She will bark at strangers and new situations, but is quick to make friends with most everyone unless she feels threatened. Loud crazy young children can stress her out a little and she will react with barking and snipping in their direction if they invade her space with that energy. She loves to get belly rubs and to sit in your lap while watching TV. Avery will find the most comfortable spots in the house--on the sofa and bed--and will nap there quietly. She sleeps through the night. She wants to know where you are in the house but she doesn't have to be with you constantly. She loves to be petted. Avery seems to be a pretty confident dog. When she saw other dogs at the park she was very interested and seemed to want to approach them. She can figure her way out of a wire crate though, so if crated, a plastic airline carrier type works well. The best part is that she has the BEST ears! Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
