About Cammie

CAMMIE IS READY FOR HER FOREVER FAMILY CAMMIE'S STORY: While we don't know what Cammie's past was like, we do know it couldn't have been a good one. She came into the shelter with a severely embedded collar, was skin and bones, and had skin problems. By the time we found out about her she was in much better condition. The collar had been removed and the wound treated, she had put on weight and her skin condition cleared up. She had been passed up in the shelter because she shrunk into the corner of the kennel when people went past. A foster that goes to the shelter often found out about her the day she was going to be euthanized reached out to us because we have taken in a lot of dogs like Cammie. We couldn't let this young beautiful dog with a lifetime of love to give ahead of her leave this earth without experiencing life with a loving family and in a safe home. After she was set up with a foster we had her taken to the vet to be spayed, get her vaccinations, and have a heartworm test. Our hearts dropped when we found out on top of everything else she was heartworm positive. But we weren't going to stop there. We arranged for her heartworm treatment and she stayed with her foster during her crate confinement. Finally she was ready to be brought to MD so we could find her a forever family. Cammie is a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier mix that weighs about 45-50lbs. She is a good size house dog. She is very timid when meeting new people but a little petting goes a long way with her. She has been with me a week and she has quickly warmed up to me. She has definitely had some training. She stays very close to my right side. When I stop she sits and waits. She loves other dogs too. When she is out playing with the other dogs she is carefree. I know that I am not seeing the real Cammie yet but I can tell you she is a very sweet girl. With me she has had her first encounter with cats and she has done well. She sniffs and moves on. I took her to PetSmart last night and she was a perfectly behaved dog. She stayed close to me, sat everytime I stopped, and interacting well with the other customers. She even encountered another dog and she simply looked at him and then continued to follow me. She is spayed, vaccinated, crate trained and house broken. Cammie would love to have a family of her own for the holidays.
