About Bentley

Rottweiler
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Bentley is a special boy who needs a special family to love him and take exceptional care of him. He is a lovable goofball and has retained a puppy like demeaner. He loves everyone and everyone who meets him seems to fall in love with him as well. He gets very excited when he meets new people and wants to jump up on them to give hugs and kisses and to receive even more love. Due to this, initially care needs to be taken around children and elderly, as he hasn't figured out his size. His foster mom has worked with him and he's improved, learning some self-control until his puppyish qualities get the best of him. He loves playing (albeit roughly) with his foster mom's cat (who loves rough play) and she usually finds them sleeping next to each other on his bed. He just wants to play whenever he meets another dog although he can be a bit much for the other dog until they get to know each other. When he met a young rottweiler of about 7 months who was more rambunctious than he is, it seemed to scare him some as he seemed to want to back away and avoid the pup. Basically though, this boy loves everyone and everything he encounters. His foster mom has noticed that he shows way too much interested in running after vehicles. It seems that the larger the vehicle, the more interest he shows. He definitely needs a solidly build fenced in yard so that he can get his energy out but more importantly to keep him safe from his own curiosities. His foster mom has worked with teaching him to restrain himself whenever a vehicle drives past but he would not be a good candidate to be unleashed in an open yard. Bentley knows basic commands such as: sit, down, stay, drop it, leave it, wait, place. He needs further work on these though as he has difficulty staying still for too long. His foster mom uses 'leave it' at each meal before giving him the ok to eat and he's really good at it, although he may try to sneak in a piece if the command is given right away. He also has not shown any food aggression. He has given the cat a warning growl from time to time but then allows the cat to lick his bowl clean. His foster mom can walk right past him as he eats, touching him in the process without any reaction from him. Bentley came to SSRR very skinny with some bad stomach problems and had a long history of vomiting as he couldn't keep his food down. It has been a long, roller coaster journey to get this boy back to health and at a healthy weight. He needs to be kept on a strict raw diet and stay on his medicine to keep him healthy. His diet consists of a variety raw chicken legs and thighs, ground beef, frozen fish (1x a week), steamed sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli, steamed green beans, cottage cheese, and a raw egg (1x a day). His foster mom notes that she has noticed that he absolutely needs to have sweet potatoes every day otherwise his stomach will get upset and he may vomit. She also notes that he prefers them steamed, not willing to eat them raw. Since he's had such a rough time with his health, he has an absolute love for food and is also a gulper. With this in mind, his foster mom will not give him chicken wings and ensures she's always right there when he eats any food with bone in it. Everyone must also be sure to be educated not to feed him anything outside of his normal diet as his system is sensitive. Bentley needs someone special who is dedicated to keep him on a raw diet, meal prep for him, keep him on his medicine and give him all the love and attention this dear boy needs.
