About Spirit

Lab / Shar-Pei
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Spirit came by her name very naturally - as a very pregnant mama whose spirit could not be broken by the conditions she had been kept in. She ended up with eight beautiful babies who she raised and have all been adopted so it's her turn to find a family to call her very own who'll give her the life she deserves. We know Spirit is part Labrador Retriever and we believe she is also Shar-Pei due to size, personality, coloring (oddly her black and chocolate coat has turned more black and golden since weaning her pups), and her luscious fur (and that famous Lab appetite). Whatever her mix she's about 55 pounds and a true love. This girl doesn't know a stranger though some may give her pause on very rare occasions. It doesn't take long for her to be trying to get as much love as she can out of anyone who will let her snuggle with them. She is very silly when she knows it's time to play and enjoys a great game of hide and seek with her people. When it's time to settle down, she hopes she will be allowed on the furniture but will dejectedly lie at her people's feet if they insist. She'll do nearly anything for a treat making for a very willing trainee. And, since she only alerts to things you should really be concerned about will be a great defender of the family once she knows you are her new family. Spirit was an outside-only dog in her previous life but loves being an inside dog. She loves her crate like a teenager loves having its own bedroom - it means she doesn't have to be outside all alone anymore. But, she does love lying in the sun outside, right next to the door mind you, and is not a nuisance barker. She gets along great with other respectful dogs after being introduced properly. She has not been around cats in the house but hasn't had much interest in those she has seen outside. If you would like to met and potentially adopt this sweet soul then read on or go directly to the adoption process page of our website, throwmeabonedogrescue.org. All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - the link is found of the Adoption Process page. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live. Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
