About Cowboy

Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Cowboy is about a year old, although his birthdate is not known since he was found as a stray. What is Cowboy like? Cowboy is a character and full of personality! He loves to play with other dogs and make friends. Once he becomes comfortable with another dog he is quickly attached and the playful puppy in him comes out. Cowboy loves kids and is very intrigued. He has been around children as young as 2 years old, middle aged children (7-10 years old), and teens. Being a working, herding breed he does have the tendency to try to 'herd' smaller children. NEVER in a hurtful way. We are working on containing his excitement around children and appropriate behaviors. He is crate trained! He stays in his crate during the day and often sleeps in his crate at night, with no problems. He is potty trained but on a strict schedule. About every 3 hours (when he is not in his crate) he needs to be taken out and quickly rewarded. We are currently working on extending this time. He is extremely food motivated which helps! What's Cowboy's history? Cowboy was rescued from the streets of Indianapolis where he was abandoned out of a moving car. He was nursed back to health for about a month by a young family near Indianapolis. Bloomington Animal Control in Indiana took him, where he stayed for about a month. Cowboy has been living with me, where we have been working on his manners in everyday situations. Currently he lives with my German Shepherd and I in my studio apartment in Chicago. They have become extremely comfortable with each other. He has adjusted to a normal life very well! He loves going for walks and running with other dogs at the dog park. He is leash trained and likes to stick right by your side. He is protective but very interested in all people and dogs. He tends to be nervous around men but warms but eventually. Once again he is very food motivated, so treats help! What is Cowboy's ideal forever home? Cowboy's forever home would be somewhere with lots of space to run and play. Preferably a home with another dog or other animals, no cats!
