About Zorba

Zorba is an adorable, loyal, loving, sweet, spunky, 5 year old Chihuahua/Terrier pup with a big personality that would make the perfect addition to the right household! He would be best in a predictable home with no children and in a mostly quiet or calm, rural environment! Zorba is extremely loyal to his owner and will likely follow you around the house! He has a ton of energy and an even bigger heart and mostly enjoys quiet nights at home snuggling with his owner. He's loves to crawl into your lap under a comfy blanket when you're relaxing or on the couch watching TV! Or if you're in bed reading, he loves to snuggle up under the covers right next to you! He's also very protective and an excellent guard dog who investigates all questionable noises. He's very smart, learns quickly and is great at following the rules once someone else has been established as the dominant alpha. He would be the best companion for a single person or couple with no kids around. He thrives in a predictable environment. Zorba's back story: Zorba has dealt with high anxiety for much of his life. He was rescued from a trailer park outside of Detroit in the beginning of 2015 when he was only a couple months old. He then moved to Chicago for a few years but the city life proved too overstimulating for him. There were issues with leash aggression towards dogs and people, when he was being walked down the city streets and had nipped at a couple people, but nothing major. Because of his aggression, he was taken to a behaviorist vet and placed on a cocktail of anti-anxiety medications in order to keep him calm against the backdrop of a hustling and bustling city. However, the medications were not a solution so in late 2018, due to his owner's job change, Zorba moved to a farm in western Illinois. He was taken off the medications and enrolled in an intensive training program which drastically decreased the majority of his aggression issues. The farm life became a much happier and overall better existence for Zorba. He's currently back in Chicago but is looking for a new forever home, in a calmer (ideally rural) environment. Some additional things to note: Zorba is a good eater and eats his food quickly with no issues. He also handles nature calls quickly and easily. Zorba has lived with his adopted sister dog for most of his life. Although he has been socialized with other dogs during visits and boarding stays, he's not great with all dogs. Certain dogs make him very anxious. He's best in predictable environments. He is feisty and scrappy and needs to be held tightly on a leash when walking past other dogs as he may try to lunge. Zorba truly is the sweetest, most loving, adorable, playful, fun, fiercely loyal dog with a big personality! He's the best companion!
