About Phoebe

Adoption Fee: $60
Pit Bull
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

July, 2018 I rescued a sweet 5yo Pitbull Terrier from Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center. Her backstory was that she was with 1 family only (Mom and daughter). The daughter and her husband took over ownership and became pregnant, but could not provide for her anymore. It was stated that she was great with children, house-trained, obedient, good with all animals, and not aggressive over anything. (I know that they had to have been asked these specifics because they're big on that there). With lots of thought, my boyfriend and I (and our 6 children) decided to adopt her. The first night went well, we gave her space and allowed her to be in the other room while she got acquainted to our big crowd. Our kids properly approached her in due time and we occasionally found her sleeping in their beds at night over time without coaxing. She was a great girl and was definitely sweet, house broken, etc. We noticed over several months later though that she can be easily bothered and very anxious(especially during storms). We sought out natural treatments and lessened any distractions to her, but naturally, things would happen sometimes, however, she DID snap at the kids when upset and it would obviously scare them. We encouraged and forced the children to give her space and ONLY let her come to them. She would show remorse afterwards and ALWAYS then laid on their laps, but her initial reaction was always to snap. After 6 months of having her, we found her to be very morose and lonely, so we found an American Bulldog that was on the euthanization list that was 2 years younger than her and decided to adopt him. Their relationship was BEAUTIFUL and she became a 'puppy' herself, leaving the two of them the best of friends ever. Kodak, (American Bulldog) was a very loving and just hyper dog, not aggressive at all. He actually LOVED to wrestle with the kids and roll all around! (He is really a perfect match for the kids) After 3 months, out of the blue, Kodak went sniffing around Phoebe's food bowl and she aggressively snapped at his face, resulting in Kodak jumping on top of her and latching on her ear... It took a lot of force to break them up... That resulted in a large vet bill. Per recommendations, we took all toys, bones, and food away from both at the the same time and separated those three things. That went fine, until it became another fight over who was going to greet one of us first or who was going to come inside first. Again, Phoebe started it and Kodak bit her darn ear and latched. We found that 'our girl' had a serious problem and after MANY recommendations from MANY sources, it was found that she would be better off with NO ANIMALS, NO KIDS, and just with a couple/one person. She really does well alerting us of visitors, (1 intruder that was scared off we believe) and being SO LOVING and CUDDLY! (She has a sweet side) After trying to rehome her, a family reached out to us and asked us to let them give her a try, that maybe the environment of 6 kids and a male dog was setting her off more... We nervously gave it a shot, and unfortunately after their many resources, we have found them to have the SAME problems... So the family and us are now reaching out to you all in hopes that we can possibly rehome her and find her the PERFECT home that she NEEDS and DESERVES!!!
